Vaping in the Sun: Precautions to take Every Summer

The summer heat is upon us, and it’s time to break out the beach towels. Before you head out for some fun in the sun, make sure you’re doing your part to protect your vaporizer and your loved ones. We all need to be cognizant of what happens when our devices are exposed to the sun for an extended period of time and take the necessary precautions for battery safety.

A few tips for vaping in the sun this year and every year

Protect Your E-liquids

E-liquids work because they react to heat. This is what makes it possible for you to vape in the first place. Unfortunately, when e-liquids sit in the sweltering heat of the summer sun they begin to react in different ways.

For instance, if you leave your liquids sitting in your car you will come back to find that the chemicals have begun to break down. The color will usually change, and you may see that the liquid has separated into different parts. In addition, the smell and taste can change drastically.

If you attempt to vape e-liquid after this breakdown has occurred, you will make a mess of your device. The liquid will not vaporize the way it is supposed to, leaving behind a thick gunk that can block up your device.

Also, the liquid will thin out and could start leaking internally in your device as the O-rings will also change in the heat.

Regardless of whether the e-liquid has visibly changed after sitting in the heat for an extended period of time, we recommend not using it. There is no way to mix it back together properly and it won’t go back to normal when it cools down. You are much better off playing it safe and buying some fresh liquid.

The best advice is to keep your liquids stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. If you are going to be on the beach, consider putting them in a small cooler where they will be protected.

Prevent Overheating Batteries

Overheating batteries are another common problem which can happen to a vaporizer or any electronic device or cellphone, especially if left in the sun. Don’t let your e-cigarette become another statistic by letting your batteries explode. Even if your batteries don’t get hot enough to swell or explode, the heat can damage the internal parts of your batteries and leave them incapable of holding a charge.

You should also make sure you are keeping sand and water off your batteries if you are visiting the beach. A battery carrying case is a good place to start as it will keep your batteries out of contact with damage. Some cases will also help reduce the amount of heat that your batteries experience.

In general, we recommend placing your batteries into a proper battery case and placing them in the shade or inside a cooler next to your e-liquids. Just make sure they’re not actually on ice. In fact, choosing a battery case that separates your batteries from one another is the best way to protect them if one of them happens to get damaged.

Keep Your Device Clean

Finally, you need to be concerned with the safety of your device itself. Sand and dirt can get into your connectors and scratch your screen. A rubberized sleeve is a good way to protect it from any unexpected drops. You can purchase pre-fitted sleeves for nearly every device on the market.

You may also want to pack some cotton swabs so you can gently wipe away any dirt that may get in the way of your vaping. Pack an extra piece of glass for your tank as well. You can never be too prepared for traveling.

What to Do?

Perhaps some of the best advice we have, other than investing in a quality case, is to set yourself up with a travel-ready device. Purchasing a mini mod and a couple of small unicorn bottles is a great way to protect your mainstay devices and the bulk of your e-liquids.

Only carry as much as you need on you for your boating excursion or hiking trip. This minimizes the risk if there is any damage while you’re out. You can even get a great deal on a bundle that stays with your camping gear just in case.

Vaping doesn’t have to slow you down this summer. With some simple planning you can set yourself up with a mobile vaping rig that makes refills and battery recharges safe and easy.

Remember, the car is the No. 1 culprit for extreme heat, but leaving your devices out on the beach is also a mistake. Pay attention to the heat and protect your devices and e-liquids and everything will be just fine.
