In the past couple years pod mods have grown tremendously in popularity due to their seamless combination of features and ease of use in a compact and user-friendly form factor. The RPM 40 from industry titan SMOK is their latest foray into cutting edge pod mod design. We revved up our engines and put this pod vape to the test to see what it’s all about. This is our SMOK RPM40 review.
RPM 40 Construction and Appearance
The SMOK RPM 40 has a well designed zinc-alloy chassis that is smooth to the touch. The device measures 25mm x 25mm x 99 mm and weighs 99 grams. This makes for an ergonomic and reasonably portable device that fits nicely in the hand. You can choose between a variety of attractive colorways for your device including gunmetal, prism colors, camo, and more.
A highlight of the device’s appearance is the detailed, full color 0.96 inch screen. The screen displays an impressive amount of vape session data including wattage, resistance, voltage, screen color, puff number and battery level. SMOK envisioned the design of the RPM 40 as combining the best of pod and box mod worlds. With its rectangular shape yet smaller form-factor than your typical box mod, they have succeeded in crafting a satisfying hybrid.
Power and Operation
Like its name suggests, the SMOK RPM 40 has a maximum output of 40 watts. When you press the intuitive firing button, an integrated 1500 mAh battery supplies this power to whichever coil is in use (included are both the RPM Mesh 0.4ohm Coil and Nord DC 0.6ohm Coil). Output level is adjusted via the 2nd up/down button. These coils come preinstalled in the included RPM 40 Pod. The SMOK pods can hold substantial quantities of e-liquid, 4.5 mL, ensuring fewer refills. However, when refilling is necessary, the process is simple enough, just pull the pod out, unplug the rubber plug on the side filling mechanism, fill up, and then replace the plug and pod. All in all, the components are well engineered and succeed in showing off SMOK’s long running experience with intuitive vape design.
Vapor Production and Experience
So now that we’ve covered the technical specifications, what’s the SMOK RPM 40 like in action? The RPM 40 provides a balanced sub-ohm vaping experience that is designed for direct lung vaping. The clouds produced are mid-size but extremely flavorful. The device succeeds in hitting that sweet-spot between a more causal pod mod experience and a more elaborate box mod cloud chasing session. Adjusting the power output makes it simple to either revv up or chill out your experience.
In our opinion, the SMOK has hit it out of the park again with the RPM 40. They’ve managed to hit a niche in the market between pod and box mods, and have managed to innovate while maintaining the high standard of build-quality and performance they’re known for. The SMOK RPM 40 is an excellent mid-sized mod that is sure to satisfy vapers of all stripes. Shop the bundle to get the SMOK RPM 40 with Extra Pods and Coils.
