In Search for the Best Vaping Device: SMOK Alien vs Others
If you’re in the market for a high-end vaping device, it can be difficult to choose one particular device over the others. Many vape manufacturers have become increasingly competitive in recent years as vape devices edge past the 200-watt mark and add more exclusive features. That’s why we decided to put together a side-by-side comparison of three of today’s most popular top-end vapes.
So let’s get straight to the point:
Which One of These is the Best Vaping Device for You?
We begin this comparison by looking at all three of these devices in their boxes. The Wismec Predator comes in a hefty black box with a picture of the device on the front surrounded by colored blades. It’s stylish and sturdy, keeping the device well protected. On the other hand, the Vaporesso Revenger has a much different personality. The clean, crisp white box is reminiscent of Apple packaging. It gives you the impression of something classy, yet practical.
The SMOK Alien is somewhere in the middle with nice modern, gray packaging. It comes with a printed sleeve over a plain black box embossed with the SMOK name. Upon opening the box you’ll find that SMOK went the extra mile with foam padding and a screen protector to keep your device from getting scratched up in transport. Many manufacturers have forgotten the ever-important screen protector lately, and it has resulted in consumer backlash.
Once you have the three boxes opened up it’s easy to see the drastic stylistic differences between the three devices. While they are all roughly the same size and weight, there are some important factors to consider if you want to choose a device that is comfortable to hold and carry. The SMOK Alien is a little boxy with just the right amount of beveled edge to wrap your fingers around comfortably. The move to a large firing bar makes it easy to use this device with minimal strain on your hand.
By contrast, the Vaporesso Revenger still relies on a large, chunky firing button near the top. While the shape of the Revenger is pretty comfortable, the rounded edges of the base made it feel a little unsteady if you had it sitting up, making it easy to knock over. The Predator uses a firing bar instead of a button. It was easy to hold and use, although we did notice that this firing bar does take a bit more pressure than the Alien to depress. This can be good or bad, depending on your personal preferences.
In a side-by-side comparison of the three devices, the Alien has the most interesting body lines and designs. With the colored frame and the skewed screen panel, the device looks futuristic. The Predator and the Revenger stick to straight lines and a basic screen layout.
Now it’s time to look at the actual features and performances of the three devices. The best way to start is by saying that both the Alien and the Revenger are listed as 220W devices while the Predator is posted as a 228W kit. Obviously, these numbers are somewhat arbitrary because people don’t actually spend their days vaping at 220W. However, it’s interesting to see that the Predator is pushing for those last few watts to stand out from the crowd. It’s hard to say if the device could actually deliver except under ideal test conditions.
There are a few features that help each device stand out. For instance, the SMOK Alien has a fascinating vape mode feature that allows you to choose from Soft, Normal or Hard vaping effects. This changes the way the coil ramps up and therefore how the vapor hits your mouth and throat. It’s a fun tool to play with that can really help you find the perfect vaping profile for you.
It also has separate battery meters that come in handy if you’re having power problems. Plus, it has memory slots galore – 22 available for saving all of your favorite configurations. There is not another device on the market that even comes close to this level of user-friendliness.
The Revenger actually falls pretty well in line with other Vaporesso kits, and some people have complained that it doesn’t offer enough unique features to really outsell other high-capacity devices. It has all of the standard temperature control features you’d expect and a large screen, but the only thing that’s really different about it is the USB smart charger, which may or may not make a difference to your daily vaping routine.
If you’re curious about the Wismec device, the Predator, it has its own unique traits. The large screen does present a dual battery indicator. Unfortunately, this eats up much of the real estate on the screen and doesn’t give much information about your actual vaping habits. You may have to do some digging through the menus to learn more about how you’re vaping.
Ultimately, we felt that the SMOK Alien is the most technologically advanced device of the three, and that it is the most user-friendly. While each of these devices has something to offer, whether it is extra wattage or a firmer grip, the Alien is the one that stood out as being a game changer. In part this is because it was a pretty big leap from any of SMOK’s other devices so it didn’t feel like a rehash of something we’ve already seen, but it was also a head above the other manufacturers as well.
